Timeplot
| Timeplot allows web site authors to embed interactive time series plots into their sites and overlay Timeline event files over them. |
|
This is the entry point for the wiki documentation of Timeplot, but the if you haven't been there yet, you might want to start from the Timeplot home page where you can see examples and a tutorial with live timeplots (that we can't embed in the wiki yet).

Examples
Here are some examples that you can use as templates to create your own timeplots:
- Immigration in the U.S. since 1820 - this timeplot shows two different time series, with different scales and a series of events overlayed.
- Energy Prices in the U.S. since 1975 - this timeplot show three different time series, using different value geometries so that they can fit in the same plot even if they have different scales. This is useful to show similar or dissimilar trends in time series.
- SIMILE Project Statistics - this timeplot shows how to use multiple timeplot widgets on the same page, how to create a time series out of the difference between two other ones and how to use a value geometry that can toggle between linear and logarithmic

Data Sources
Here is a list of data sources that you can use to make your own timeplots:
- United Nations Common Database - provides selected series from numerous specialized international data sources for all available countries and areas.
- U.S. Government Repositories - a list of high quality datasets and repositories from the U.S. Government.
- U.S. Government Transparency - a broad range of information available to track U.S. government and legislative information, campaign contributions and the role of money in politics.
- EuroStat Datasets - a list of statistical datasets provided by the Statistical Office of the European Communities (EuroStat).
- Time Series Data Library - a collection of about 800 time series drawn from many different fields.
- StatLib Dataset Archive - an etherogeneous source of statistical data
- Global Historical Climatology Network - contains historical temperature, precipitation, and pressure data for thousands of land stations worldwide.
- World Data Center for Paleoclimatology - archives of reconstructions of past climatic conditions derived from paleoclimate proxies, in addition to the Program's large holdings of primary paleoclimatic proxy data.
There are also a lot of datasets in various web sites that deal with data visualization, although not all of them are time series:
- ManyEyes Datasets - list of dataset available in Manyeyes.
- Swivel Datasets - list of datasets available in Swivel.

Similar Tools
Here is a list of similar tools that perform client-side rendering of time series plots (feel free to add others that we missed):
- amCharts Line - a very nice, powerful suite flash-based rendering widgets.
- Chronoscope - an ambitious and interesting time series rendering widget that supports a mix of client-side and server-side processing and features the use of time-series midmaps where new data is fetched dynamically from the server if the user zooms in the plot.
