selecting among display choices

If i give a list of alternates and one is selected, do I just send
back the selected property, or do I send back the original property
with the alternate property's value?

eg if it says "fresnel:title can be foaf:name or rdfs:label", and I
find "rdfs:label foo" then should I send back "rdfs:label foo" or
"fresnel:title foo". or should I do neither, extract the label, and
attach that to a style class?

Arguably, it may be very useful for the display to know which
predicate got used, as it might lead to different formatting.
