Slim, definitely. Faster, not sure, but clearly not slower (for a local
store, for a remote store, the network latencies and server load might
hit you more than you realize at first)

Decoupling also has the benefit of the divide and conquer method to
memory management analysis: it's easier to find a leak when complex
subsystems like xpcom and a JVM are decoupled more than coupled together.
