RE#1: SEMANTIC-BANK Q&A: Neither sh- or bat-scripts will finalize cleanly

Ryan, thanks for a quick response.

The issue still stands, both on semantic-bank-2.0b1 and the recent
semantic-bank-2.1. As follows, in to sections (A/B.)

-A-

Regarding semantic-bank-2.0b1.tar/zip as of the 20-Jun-2005, 15:49: The
current problem persists in Semantic-Bank. Neither of the following default
scripts will finalize in XPP-cmd or Linux /bin/bash:

a. "./semantic-bank.sh run semantic-bank.properties src/rdf/ontologies"
b. "./semantic-bank.sh run semantic-bank.properties src/rdf/configurations
src/rdf/facades"

1. It seems that (a) freezes-up, after loading "...node160 node0 node2
->node1<-" - as echoed in the console

2. With no command prompt after executing (a), performing the recommendation
"# stop after it starts properly" requires me to end the script by
signalling or closing the console. Otherwise, running (b) echoes "Failed to
start: SocketListener0_at_127.0.0.1:8888", "Failed to create web server" and
"[java.net.BindException Adress already in use: JVM_BIND]. All due to the
console still running an unfinished (a)

3. When forcing a close of the console running (a), running the script (b)
in a second console, it also freezes-up, echoing "Main Class:
edu.mit.simile.semanticBank.SemanticBank". Still, I can access a basic
".\semantic-bank.sh run semantic-bank.properties" in Firefox 1.0.7.
Although, the known issue with Velocity then echoes in this second console

-B-

Regarding semantic-bank-2.1.tar/zip as of the 19-oct-2005, 15:22: The
current problem persists in Semantic-Bank. Neither of the following default
scripts will finalize in XPP-cmd or Linux /bin/bash:

a. "./semantic-bank.sh run semantic-bank.properties src/rdf/ontologies"
b. "./semantic-bank.sh run semantic-bank.properties src/rdf/configurations
src/rdf/facades"

1. It seems that (a) still freezes-up, after loading "...\internal\web.n3" -
as echoed in the console

2. With no command prompt after executing (a), performing the recommendation
"# stop after it starts properly" requires me to end the script by
signalling or closing the console. Otherwise, as before, running (b) echoes
"Failed to start: SocketListener0_at_127.0.0.1:8888", "Failed to create web
server" and "[java.net.BindException Adress already in use: JVM_BIND]. All
due to the console still running an unfinished (a)

3. When forcing a close of the console running (a), running the script (b)
in a second console, it also freezes-up, echoing Loading
"...\configurations\mappings.n3 to profile bank". Still, I can access a
basic ".\semantic-bank.sh run semantic-bank.properties" in Firefox 1.0.7. On
the positive side, the known issue with Velocity doesn't appear in this
second console

I've installed these versions of Semantic bank on 2.8Ghz/512MB-systems. I've
tried both proxies and direct TCP/IP-connections. De-activated Antivirus,
Firewalls et al. No other errors reported on my OS-platforms.
Any idea what the problem is?

P.S
Further input: I'm expecting a Semantic-Bank as depicted on
http://simile.mit.edu/semantic-bank/index.html. Browse Data by Tag, Starting
Points and Browse Data by Type. I get Browse Data by Type and find at this
forum that all others get Semantic Bank in all it's glory.

Hello Patrik,
Thanks for getting in touch with us.
This is a known issue with Velocity that does not actually block Semantic
Bank from running. There should be no obstacle to viewing and using your
bank or running subsequent commands to load the configurations and facades
directories.
See http://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/VELOCITY-71
If there is another problem, please supply your version of Semantic Bank as
well as a description of what you were expecting and why SB didn't match
your expectations.
